Temporary repairs to a busy thoroughfare this month come ahead of major improvements to the road surface on and around South Road bridge in Hailsham.
Residents who witnessed the patching work and pothole repairs have been assured that a more long-lasting solution will be undertaken before the year is out.
Hailsham's Conservative councillor Gerard Fox, who represents New Town division on East Sussex county Council, has been working with the Highways and County Assets Managements team on getting a long-term solution for South Road bridge.
“In a leaflet delivered to residents at the end of January I indicated that a significant intervention to improve the condition of South Road bridge would follow later this year", he said. "That remains the case, and I will not rest until it is delivered. The current patching work is an interim carriageway solution until ongoing utility and other works taking place in the vicinity are completed.
East Sussex Highways has promised a comprehensive resurfacing project related to the bridge will follow later in the year once these other works have been completed”
