With reports of homes in Hellingly being flooded with sewage this month, leaders at Wealden District Council have written to Southern Water demanding answers and immediate action.
The council has told the statutory water authority that they can expect probing questions when they come before its Overview and Scrutiny Committee, and councillors will be wanting answers, including a solution to the problem.
Villagers had sewage backing up into their homes, with the issue of waste water entering their homes during times of heavy rain for more than a decade.
“We have written, in the strongest terms, to senior executives at Southen Water”, says Wealden’s Conservative Leader, Cllr Ann Newton. “We have asked an explanation of a disgusting and totally unacceptable situation, which they are already fully aware of. We will be making this issue a continual point of discussion at our meetings, rest assured.”
Southern Water said it planned to install "anti-flooding measures" in various properties.
