We have announced £2.4 billion of taxpayers’ money will be saved and reinvested into NHS frontline services over the next five years, as we replace a costly and outdated model for purchasing goods and services for the NHS.
- Billions of pounds of taxpayers’ money will be freed up for the NHS frontline in our simplification of NHS procurement processes.
- The old model required 234 separately negotiated deals and this led to large variations in cost and services.
- The new logistics contract is the biggest of thirteen new national NHS contracts which form the new NHS Supply Chain.
Our long-term plan will see billions of pounds invested into the NHS, but we have to make sure that every penny of this is spent as wisely and effectively as possible.
