Wealden council are pleased to announce that our waste contractor, Biffa, has informed us this afternoon it has reached a negotiated settlement with the GMB union and as a result the industrial action has been brought to an end.

Conservative councillor Ray Cade, Wealden's Portfolio Holder for Waste Management says of the news:

“We are pleased the industrial action has been brought to a conclusion and the full range of collection services will resume for residents this week. We would ask residents to be patient while crews recover all the outstanding work and people should check the council’s website for the latest information and to check their bin collection days.

“The final outcome is a confidential matter between Biffa as the employer and their staff and we cannot elaborate on any figures being quoted by the GMB Union.

“I understand the trouble and inconvenience people have had to put up with during the strike and I’d like to thank all our residents for their understanding during the strike action and while the catch-up takes place.

“It may take some time for all the work to be caught up but we hope to have our normal high level of service resume as soon as possible.”
