Nusrat Ghani MP joined local Wealden business Scientifica to open the London Stock Exchange earlier this week. In December Scientifica won the Export Business and Overall Business of the Year Awards at the British Chambers of Commerce Business Awards, and were granted the honour of beginning a trading day as a result.
During the reception to follow, Ms Ghani was invited to make a speech and celebrated the success of businesses in Wealden and East Sussex on the national and international stage.
Yesterday, she raised Scientifica’s success in the House of Commons during questions to ministers from the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy. Science Minister Jo Johnson joined Ms Ghani in congratulating Scientifica and praising their work.
Ms Ghani commented: “This was a proud day for Scientifica, for Wealden and for East Sussex. For one of our local businesses, which has acquired a national and international reputation, to be recognised like this is a truly remarkable achievement.
“Having visited Scientifica, I know first-hand that it is a fully deserved achievement. It is a business built on innovation, hard work, collaboration and enterprise, characteristics that underpin any successful organisation and are the driver of that success. I was delighted to join Scientifica on this special day, and all of Wealden should be proud of their achievement.”
Scientifica carries out scientific research to achieve breakthroughs in neuroscience by overcoming experimental hurdles with new laboratory equipment. The instruments it manufactures are distributed to universities, pharmaceutical companies and research laboratories in more than 40 countries worldwide.
