Former Wealden councillor Sylvia Martin has been awarded the MBE for political and public service.
A long-serving volunteer member of the Conservative Party, notably in Wealden, she was also a local councillor in East Sussex and member of many community organisations in the county before moving to Suffolk 18 months ago.
She is now secretary of the Hadleigh branch of the Conservatives and a member of the executive of the South Suffolk Conservative Association.
Commenting on news of the award, Wealden Conservatives Chairman, Helen Galley, said it was well deserved.
"Sylvia worked tirelessly for the community and it is fitting that her many decades of service have been officially recognised in this way. Our congratulations," added a spokesman.
