Plans approved for exciting new Community and Health Centre in Mayfield

A planning application for Mayfield Community and Health Centre has been unanimously approved.

Members of Wealden District Council’s Planning Committee North gave permission for the application at a recent meeting.

Undertaken in partnership between Wealden District Council and Mayfield & Five Ashes Parish Council, the project combines a dedicated community facility with an integral health centre to better serve the community – offering additional services, not currently available such as maternity and antenatal care.

The new centre will occupy the existing, previously developed two acres site on top of Court Meadow, Mayfield, on land owned by the parish council.

Conservative councillor Bob Standley, who has been on the project board since its inception, said, “I am delighted that the Mayfield Hall and Medical Centre was approved by Planning Committee North. This project will deliver benefits to the residents of Mayfield and Five Ashes and be a significant improvement of infrastructure for the community.”

Deveda Redman, chairman of Mayfield & Five Ashes Parish Council, said, “The parish council is delighted the application was passed unanimously by Wealden’s members. It marks an important milestone and we look forward to continuing to work with Wealden District Council to see the much needed centre come to fruition.”

Amy Galea, chief primary care officer for NHS Sussex, said, “This is a fantastic step forward towards an improved quality of GP and healthcare services for the residents in Mayfield and Five Ashes.”

The application is for a versatile 23m x 10m hall, offices, meeting rooms and a large ‘free’ community hub area where anyone can informally meet or socialise, plus medical premises. The existing number of car parking spaces will be increased by 50% with electric charging spaces.
