Nus Ghani, the MP for Wealden, has congratulated Phoenix Academy in Hailsham on topping the 2018 Hailsham Primary School League table. The publication of results by the Government has shown that 71 per cent of students at Phoenix Academy achieved the required standard in English and Maths, making them the top performing primary school in Hailsham.

This represents an impressive turnaround, when three years ago Phoenix Academy was threatened with closure for ‘unacceptably low standards’.

Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, said: “Congratulations to all the students and staff at Phoenix Academy for these incredibly impressive results.

“It’s testament to the hard work of head teacher Alun Evans and his colleagues in putting the children first and driving improvement.

“Their results put them in the top 5 per cent nationally on progress measures, a stunning achievement and I am sure a sign of even greater things to come.”
