Following the Wadhurst Parish Meeting held on Thursday 25 October 2018, a Parish Poll has been requested. It will ask the following question:
‘Are you in favour of the redevelopment of the Commemoration Hall and Football Field as proposed by the Wadhurst Hall and Field CIO? Yes/No.’
The Parish Poll will be administered by Wealden’s Returning Officer who has a statutory duty to run such polls. It will be conducted in accordance with The Parish and Community Meetings (Polls) Rules 1987. This means that the hours of the poll are from 4pm to 9pm, no poll cards can be issued and there is no provision for postal or proxy votes. There is also no provision to include late additions to be added to the electoral register. This means that the register to be used at the poll will be the one in force as at 1 September 2018. It will not include anyone who was added to the register after that date.
Speaking about the Parish Poll, Cllr Bob Standley said: “This a chance for residents of the Parish to voice their opinion on the important subject of a new Commemoration Hall, Doctors’ Surgery, new sporting facilities and housing. There are strong opinions on each side and the Poll will see Local Democracy in Action.”
