Wealden District Council continue to process claims for business grants and have so far processed 1,800 out of a total of 2,500 received. It has so far paid out £18.3 million to those eligible Wealden businesses.
WDC are currently making payments every weekday, with £2 – 3 million in Faster Payments being made each day. The council's Revenues and Business Rates Teams worked throughout the Easter Bank Holiday period, and did so again this weekend to get payments made to eligible businesses as soon as possible.
All applications are subject to a verification process as prescribed by Government. This is to ensure that Tax Payers’ money is not spent fraudulently. We have 600 applications still in the verification stage. We are working hard to get these checked as quickly as possible, so please bear with us.
"We understand that this situation is an anxious time for many business owners. We would ask for your continued patience, and please be assured that we are doing our very best to get payments made quickly in these difficult circumstances", said the Conservative-run authority.
"In order to channel our resources and get all applications verified, processed and paid as quickly as possible, we regret that we are unable to contact businesses on an individual basis regarding the success of their application."
For any Wealden business who is yet to apply, there are still funds available.
