Wealden council’s successful Drive to Digital programme has been shortlisted for the 2019 Local Government Chronicle Awards. These annual awards recognise Councils that provide the best examples of Local Government innovation and service delivery. Wealden has been shortlisted in the “Driving efficiency through technology” category and is the only District Council to appear in the shortlist of nine.

Cllr Nick Collinson, Portfolio Holder for Community Leadership and Human Resources, said: “I am delighted that our Drive to Digital programme has been recognised by the LGC as deserving to be on the shortlist.  As the LGC says, councils that have been shortlisted are among the most innovative – and their innovation is providing the best services for residents. We have developed initiatives over the last three years to make our services easier for the public to use, whenever they want to use them.  As well as making our services more responsive to our resident’s expectations, it greatly increases our efficiency. It helps us devote more time to those who need most help.”

The Drive to Digital programme covers a range of initiatives to make access to the Council’s services more convenient and efficient. This includes helping more people get online. Wealden now offers 85 services online 24/7 through the MyWealden portal. Residents can sign up for an account at https://my.wealden.gov.uk/

The shortlisted organisations will complete presentations and interviews in January 2019 to a judging panel. It will be made up of senior and influential figures within Local Government. The winners of the Awards will then be announced at a prestigious ceremony in London on 13 March 2019 which will be attended by more than 1,100 people from Local Government and its partner organisations.
