Following the General Election, Wealden's MP, Nus Ghani, has thanked everyone for their support:
What a night! First of all, I would like to say a massive thank you for all your help and support across Wealden and indeed in our neighbouring marginal constituencies!
We managed to improve our result again in Wealden, whilst we defended Hastings, Lewes, and Crawley. We also managed to re-gain Eastbourne and I am delighted to welcome Caroline back to the green benches.
We increased our majority and the results vindicate our work locally, all the surgeries, tens of thousands of residents helped with casework and supporting local businesses, schools and charities. Unlike the opposition, I haven’t spent my time in echo chambers or assumed that social media is the real world. Grafting locally over years and the support of Members and Councillors has help deliver this great result.
There are too many superb people to thank, but I must note the support of my agent Jeannette Towey, WCCA Chairman Toby Illingworth and the Officers who have popped up posters in the rain to supporting me at public meetings. And to the members who have provided much support and even provided home baked goodies for last nights long election count. Thank you all!
Nationally – this most incredible result confirms what we knew, that the country wants Brexit done and shares our values and ambitions. This has also been the ultimate indictment of Jeremy Corbyn’s failing vision of a Marxist Britain and Liberal Democrat’s refusal to respect the democratic results of the referendum.
Once again, I would like to thank you for your support.
Let’s see how the next few days unfold. Exciting times. The PM has promised 100 days of action! I am keen to crack on but....... I hope to get some much needed family time and start preparing for Christmas.
