Wealden's issues remain top of the agenda for one East Sussex MP who's promised to continue to campaign hard on local matters for the benefit of residents.
In his latest newsletter, the Conservative Huw Merriman, (MP for Bexhill and Battle which includes part of Wealden District) acknowledges that housing numbers are a particular challenge for our planning authorities.
He says: "For Ann Newton and the team at Wealden District Council, as well Carl Maynard and the team seeking to win back control of Rother, I am engaging with Ministers to ensure that our election literature can reassure the public that we will deliver the right homes in the right places, and that developers will be forced to build out before asking for even more applications", he says.
Adding: "Our new legislation will give greater protection to the countryside and ANOB. It’s vital that the electors can see their Conservative MPs and district councils are working hard, together to this end."
Other local matters of immediate concern to the MP are that the water and electricity companies also need to be better equipped to deal with supply and weather events. "On all of these matters, I am engaged with the companies themselves and with the regulators", says Huw. "I have also chaired a meeting with fellow Sussex MPs and the Sussex Resilience Forum to encourage more leadership and planning in local emergencies."
