Cllr Barry Marlowe

Barry Marlowe was first elected as a Wealden District Councillor in May 2011 to represent a Hailsham Ward.  In May 2015 he won the election for Uckfield Ridgewood ward, attracting 50% of the total vote.

Barry is Deputy Chairman of the Licensing Committee and a member of Overview & Scrutiny Committee.

Barry strongly supports the need for improvement in public transport links. He is Chairman of the Wealden Bus Alliance and Deputy Chairman of the Sussex Community Rail Partnership.

Wealden Bus Alliance, formed as a Community Interest Company is funded by Wealden District Council and its aim is to promote and encourage the greater use of public transport in the Wealden area and its environs, The company's first major project was the 'Forest Explorer' an integrated bus/rail scheme designed to persuade people to visit Ashdown Forest by public transport, rather than by car. 

In May 2015 the company started a new and innovative patient transport scheme covering 4 doctors’ surgeries in the Uckfield area, designed particularly for those persons who do not have a car and have difficulty in accessing their doctor or nurse

Barry ran a campaign to persuade National Express to provide a better daily Coach service through Wealden towns to London and Gatwick Airport The campaign which attracted 625 signatures was successful, and the result was a greatly improved daily service, which commenced in 2012. 

Barry was instrumental in creating the independent Wealden Bus Passenger User Group which now represents bus users throughout the district.

Barry and his wife Audrey have lived in Sussex for over 25 years and he is now retired. They moved to Buxted in 2013. They have three children ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. His hobbies and interest include sailing, model making and website design.

Having moved to Crowborough, Barry has been selected as the Conservative Candidate for Crowborough Jarvis Brook in May's district council elections. To read his manifesto, click the link below to view it as a PDF.
