Cllr Jo Bentley

Wealden District Councillor for  Hailsham South and West, Jo is a former mayor of Hailsham and ran a family businesses with her husband, Cllr Bill Bentley, from a shop in Hailsham High Street for many years.

Jo has lived in the South and West Ward for over 25 Years and been a Wealden Councillor for over ten years. She has been proud to serve the people of Hailsham as Town Mayor on two occasions in 2004 and 2012 - 2015. Jo is a member of the Wealden District Council Scrutiny committee and the Licensing Committee. As Chair of the Town Council Jo sits on all committee’s to oversee all of the town activities Jo also leads the town on the Town Centre improvement team and was a founder member of the drive to reinstate a market in our market town. Jo supports working with our young people giving them help and support while still in education and then through the successful Hailsham Works program. Jo has worked to prevent development on farm land to the south of Hailsham protecting the green belt and flood plain between Hailsham and Polegate. Hailsham is seeing development to the north and east of the town but what is important now is to push to ensure that the infrastructure of the town is developed to support housing growth.
