Cllr Nicholas Collinson

District Councillor for Hailsham North

A Wealden District Councillor, Nick was first elected as District Councillor for Hailsham Central & North Ward in May 2011. Following boundary changes, he was elected to the new Hailsham North ward in May 2019 as district councillor.

Having devoted most of his time in the last 20 years to establishing and running the Piltdown based business he jointly owns, Nick wanted to put some time and effort back into his local community and became a District Councillor.  He believes that Hailsham is an attractive proposition for businesses and families and is keen to see Hailsham town centre rejuvenated to ensure that the town has all of the facilities and services it needs.

Nick is the father of two grown up girls. He was born in Crowborough then spent most of his childhood in Horam. He settled in Hailsham in 1991.

Nick enjoys listening to music, watching movies, taking his dogs out for country walks, pub lunches, and social activities along with some more practical interests such as home improvements, DIY and gardening.  He is a keen sportsman and has taken up most sports in his time, ranging from competing in triathlons to playing snooker.   Until recently he was a keen 5-a-side footballer. He also enjoys a round of golf, although admits to being something of a fair-weather player!

It’s National Apprenticeship Week (4 - 8 March) and Wealden District Council are pleased to announce their new cohort of apprentices for 2019 - the fourth annual scheme to take place in partnership with the East Sussex College Group (formerly Sussex Downs College) since 2014.

Wealden council’s successful Drive to Digital programme has been shortlisted for the 2019 Local Government Chronicle Awards. These annual awards recognise Councils that provide the best examples of Local Government innovation and service delivery.

Wealden District has a new leader since on Wednesday 18 July, a meeting of the Full Council appointed Trevor Scott, the Council’s Director of Governance and Corporate Services, as its new Chief Executive. He will take over from Charles Lant, who will be retiring after 16 years in the role.

Nus Ghani, MP for Wealden, appeared on both Hailsham FM and Uckfield FM last week, celebrating the contribution Wealden’s first-rate community radio stations make.
