MAKE MAGGIE A strong local voice AGAIN
I am delighted to have been selected to be your Conservative Party candidate for the Hailsham Central Ward, in the upcoming Town Council By- Election on 2nd December.
My name is Maggie and I have lived in Hailsham since 1971. I have seen our town grow over the years, especially as part of the Conservative-led Town council on which I was proud to serve between 2011 and 2017.
I am a retired nurse of many years’ service, in and around Hailsham, the DGH and Hellingly Hospitals
I raised my only son where he became a member of the former Hailsham Blue Star marching band, consisting of all ages and abilities of Hailsham youngsters winning many trophies representing the town and putting Hailsham on the map between 1976-1986.
In 1990 he tragically died on the M25 due to a speeding motorist. This resulted in my working relationship with Sussex Police to create a Bereavement Officer from Lewes HQ.
As I am now retired I became a full-time member of St Peters’ & St Paul’s’ church choir and, latterly, a bell-ringer. I now walk my dog and continue with my hobbies.
I hope I can become your Town Councillor to once again see our market town flourish.
My main aims and objectives are:
1) To work towards care in the community with our elderly;
2) To make Hailsham a better, safer and more tolerant place to live and work;
3) To continue to find ways to reduce anti-social behaviour;
4) To encourage our up-and-coming young people to become better citizens.
A VIBRANT TOWN
The heart of our great market town is its high street and our wonderful local businesses.
Hailsham Town Council Conservatives put together, and helped to create, a successful rescue plan for the Post Office.
Wealden Conservatives will invest in the town centre while preserving its essential character and attraction to locals and visitors alike. As councillors, we will continue to work with the Chamber of Commerce, local businesses, clubs and societies, and the Hailsham Community Group forum to enhance the quality of community life.
EXPANDED MEDICAL SERVICES FOR HAILSHAM
We value our local NHS. Hailsham’s size justifies expanded medical facilities. Wealden Conservatives are embedding expansion of medical services in the town into the Local Plan.
We will prioritise this in our own investment plans for Hailsham at District-level, working with NHS partners, with whom we are already in discussion, to deliver it. This will include expanded GP surgery capacity, specialist services, and a Minor Injuries Unit.
Hailsham Conservatives believe that new housing must be built in a sustainable manner. It must be appropriate to, and prioritise local needs, and be accompanied by new infrastructure to support it, with greater access to open spaces. We will promote the Neighbourhood plan as approved by Hailsham residents in May.
Conservatives are investing £42.8 million in the town’s education facilities.
Our councillors are bringing forward the delivery of key junction improvements on the A22; South Rd/ Ersham Rd and Diplocks Way.
We’ll work with County and District colleagues to hold Southern Water and poor housing developers to account.
